Well first of all let metell you a little bit about me, i grew upwith bargain hunting, from a young age i was taken round carboots/charity shops/jumble salesand quickly grew a keen eyefor a bargain!!!Ive also been interested in fashion since my teenage years,so imvery knowledgeable about whats 'in' and what's 'so last year-darling'. I beleive having a sense of style is a must for any savvy girl.
I first started out selling on ebay just downsizing my own wardrobe and things around the house and business has just grown from there. I have only been an active seller for just under two years, but boy have i come far. I was diagnosed with M.E. and Fibromyalgia 5 years ago and had to give upmy main job, since my health has improved, buying and selling on ebay has become one of my main hobbies and also a 2nd income.
80% of my sales are ladies clothing, i sell vintage as well as modern/high-street fashion labels and designer/couture clothing (when i can get my hands on it)!!!
The main percentage of my items have been sourced through charity shops/carboots/jumbles sales and hopefullyI can give yousome advice and helpful tips on how to be succesful in making a profit on ebay.
Charity Shops:-1sale rails are an excellent source, its not much to put down on 1 item and you can keep your listing at a reasonable start price, that way there isn't much risk in your sale. If buying amore expensiveitem in a charityshop stick too well knowndesigner or high-end high-street labels thatare likely tomake you aprofit. Labels such as Fat Face, White Stuff, Jack Wills, Boden, Topshop, Miss Selfridge, River Islandstand to make a bit of profit, also designer labels such asFendi, Armani, Chloe, Vivenne Westwood,All Saints,Paule Ka etc
Carboots:- Most clothingat carbootsis reasonabley priced, you can expect to pay anywhere between 0.50-3.00 on an item, which if in good condition is worth taking a risk on. Always be prepared to haggle with aseller if you feel they are charging too much, carbootsellers expect this and it is not un-common. They might not be willing to come down in their prices, but it is worthasking, and you can just walk away if not.
Those clothes on the floor/or stuffed in binliners- might look like a load of old tack but you will be amazed at what you can find, scouring through what looked like a massive pile of junk last year i found two 'All Saints' items and two designer suits, and lots more, they charged just 0.50p per item.
Jumbles Sales:- A great source for finding vintage clothing!!! You really do have to be prepared to stand in a quewe for a while if you want to get your hands on the good stuff. I quite often turn up 1 hour before, tedious but worth it. Remember to wrap up warm in colder months!!! Also get used to a lot of pushing, shoving and snatching, not many people go to jumble salespurelyfor selling on ebay, but they do like a bargain.I often take mypartner to help me atjumble sales, that way i can pass him stuff to hold onto whilst i keep my hands free.
Vintage/Antique Fairs/Sales in the paper:- keep your eye outfor these, well worth a look round to give you ideas and meet sellers in the area, you may not come away with anything as these sales tend to be quite pricey, but they do sometimes have sale rails which are always worth a look.
Also keep your eye out in your local paper for items for sale, you may find somebody is selling a batch of clothing for a reasonable amount of money, which is also worth looking into.
If you have something designer or good quality or even new with tags, its worth making use of ebay's extra selling tools, such as sub-titles, border's, bold, highlighting, any of these can really increase interest in your items and help them to stand out better, especially if the item is a one off. Also if you know the original price of an item, add a buy-it-now price to your listing that ise.g. 5.00pounds cheaper than theoriginal price, you never now somebody might just want-it-now!!!
Try to be as informative as possible with your listings, that way you cut down the amount of questions being asked about your items. Make sure you give good descriptions and take good quality pictures andtry to makeuse ofall the space given to you in the title. Remember people come accross your items by typing in keywords!!! Keep your eye out for what's hot at the moment in ebay sales!!! Get fashion conscious. I subscribe to Look magazine whichcan help me a lot to know what's in, alsoadd shops like Topshop
